Over the past several decades, the prevalence of asthma has been increasing both nationwide and in Montana. As of 2008, an estimated 70,600 adults and 17,100 children in Montana currently have asthma.
In part as a response to this increase in asthma, the Montana State Legislature provided funding to create the Montana Asthma Control Program in 2007. Shortly thereafter, the Montana Asthma Control Program was created within the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services.
